Tourism Transcarpathia

The three regions - Maramures, Ivano Frankivsk and Zakarpattia meet in Central Europe in a mountainous rural zone that lies along the chain of the Carpathian Mountains and in the valley of Tisa river. Although the region is characterized by a large linguistic and religious diversity, the ethnical communities share as many similarities as differences. A common history and geography, the same economical development and the common aim for an economical prosperity give birth to a strong sense of communion and to the desire of cooperation.

Thus, the three neighbouring regions are part of the common project called Trans Carpathian Tourism - A Network for the promoting of tourism in the regions of Maramures, Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk. This is a project supported financially by the European Union through the program Phare CBC 2005, the Neighbourhood Programme between Romania and Ukraine. The Maramures County Council has as its project partner, in mirror, the Association of Tourism of the Ivano-Frankivsk regions and the European Center CHARD-CHUST from Ukraine.

The aim of the project is to increase the touristic attractiveness of the neighbouring region formed by Maramures County and the areas of Zakarpattia and Ivano-Frankivsk, by developing new methods to efficiently promote the touristic offer of this region. The objective of the project is to increase the power of the local public administration in order to support the touristic sector through actions that are in their jurisdiction, namely the promoting of the touristic potential by modern means.

The project "Trans Carpathian Tourism" aims, on the one hand to achieve an international touristic information network, being oriented to the enlargement of the impact zone of the offer where these integrated touristic regions appear and, on the other hand the development of the touristic offer due to the interest of the tourists in this region.
